You’re Invited to the Grand Opening of the Conservation Campus!

Updated: Oct 29

The San Juan Islands Conservation District is excited to invite members of the public to a Grand Opening of the Spring Street Conservation Campus on November 14th from 3-6pm at 915 Spring Street in Friday Harbor.

Festivities will include facility tours, locally sourced food, drinks, music, an official ribbon-cutting (at 5pm—sharp), and a chance to win raffle and auction items, with proceeds benefitting the Youth Conservation Corps.

The Conservation Campus serves as the new home for the 77-year-old Conservation District and as a regional hub for broader environmental stewardship efforts. It supports programming for sustainable agriculture and food systems, ecological restoration, climate resilience, habitat diversity, endangered species recovery, workforce development, youth outdoor programming, and even access to higher education in partnership with Western Washington University.

The new home for the district marks a significant chapter in its history and was made possible with the help of the USDA Rural Development Community Facility Acquisition loan program. Over the past five years, significant growth of district programs has resulted in more landowners receiving more natural resource management services from our team of 16 employees, 15 Island Conservation Corps crew members, and 45 summertime Youth Conservation Corps crew.

Services provided include agricultural infrastructure and planning, stream restoration projects, wildlife habitat improvements, forest health practices, and wildfire preparedness. Partners in these efforts are far ranging and include local, state and federal agencies, tribes, non-profits, and private landowners on all islands.

This Grand Opening is an opportunity to meet our team and partners, see our space, connect to your neighbors, learn more about conservation practices, and celebrate this community asset.

Thank you for being part of this community—we hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Paul Andersson
